Overview

PhenoCheck – Product Overview

The PhenoCheck is a compact, portable, and battery-operated handheld spectral phenotyper developed by Spectricon. It’s designed to bring powerful real-time spectral imaging and analysis directly to the field, empowering agronomists, farmers, researchers, and precision agriculture professionals with instant, science-based insight into plant health and development.

Operating across a wide spectral range of 400–1000 nm, PhenoCheck captures and processes spectral images, color images, vegetation indices (VIs), and classification maps at video rates. This makes it possible to evaluate crop status in real time without the need for laboratory testing or post-processing delays.

The system features an integrated LED array that enables both diffuse reflectance and fluorescence spectral imaging modes, making it highly versatile across different crop types, environments, and research needs. By detecting subtle spectral variations in plant leaves and fruits, PhenoCheck provides early indicators of pathogens, viruses, pest infestations, as well as nutrient and water stress.

Additionally, PhenoCheck can be used for non-destructive fruit ripeness monitoring, offering growers the ability to objectively assess ripening stages and optimize harvest timing. This leads to better crop quality, improved yield, and reduced waste.

Designed for intuitive field use, PhenoCheck interfaces with a touchscreen tablet PC via a single cable that handles both data and power. The entire system is lightweight, easy to operate, and capable of running for over 4 hours on a single charge, making it ideal for use in remote or large-scale agricultural settings.

With its powerful combination of spectral sensitivity, real-time classification, and field portability, the PhenoCheck provides a fast, accurate, and non-invasive tool for improving agronomic decision-making, supporting sustainable agriculture, and advancing plant research in real-world conditions.
