Phantom TMX 5010

Experience extreme frame rates with the Phantom TMX 5010. Our cutting-edge back side illuminated high-speed sensor and versatile features make it perfect for any application.

Overview

The Phantom TMX 5010 is a high-speed camera that uses back side illumination technology, making it an exceptional camera for high-speed imaging applications. With this innovative technology, Vision Research engineers have designed a custom sensor that can achieve unprecedented speeds while maintaining the image quality that Phantom cameras are known for.

Using BSI technology, the TMX cameras can process images more efficiently, allowing them to maintain high throughput levels even when frame rates increase. The TMX 5010 can achieve a throughput of 50 Gigapixels, providing over 51,000 fps at a resolution of 1280 x 800. At lower resolutions, the camera can record over 500,000 fps in standard mode and up to 1.2M fps and 80ns in FAST mode.

Like the TMX 7510 and 6410, the TMX 5010’s BSI sensor moves the metal parts that interfere with incident light to the back of the sensor, allowing more light to reach each pixel. This improves light sensitivity and QE, which is essential in high-speed imaging.

The TMX 5010 is part of a new generation of cameras that offer improved throughput, features, and performance. Its flexibility ensures that it can produce images that meet the needs of scientific analysts. By selecting binning mode, a variety of resolutions can be obtained without sacrificing speed. For example, in standard mode, the TMX 5010 can reach over 200,000 fps at a resolution of 1280 x 192 (long, thin rectangle). However, by switching to binning mode, the same speeds can be achieved at 640 x 384 (shorter and wider rectangle). Researchers can choose the resolution option that best fits the size and shape of their high-speed event.

BSI Technology

BSI technology is a game-changer in high-speed imaging and is also utilized in the TMX 5010 camera. This innovative technology provides increased processing efficiency, allowing TMX cameras to maintain their high throughput levels even as frame rates increase. The TMX 5010 has a throughput of 50 Gigapixels, which can provide over 51,000 fps at a resolution of 1280 x 800. At reduced resolutions, the camera can record over 500,000 fps in standard mode and up to 1.2M fps and 80ns in FAST mode.

Like the TMX 7510, the TMX 5010 uses BSI technology to improve the sensitivity and image quality of the camera’s sensor. In a traditional sensor, the light-sensitive pixels are located on the front side of the sensor, with electronic components such as transistors located on the back side. In a BSI sensor, the light-sensitive pixels are located on the back side of the sensor, with the electronic components on the front side. This allows for more light to reach the pixels, resulting in a higher signal-to-noise ratio and improved low-light performance. Additionally, BSI sensors are typically smaller and thinner, allowing for more compact camera designs.

As with any high-speed imaging system, increased speeds require increased light. The unique back side illuminated sensor in the Phantom TMX 5010 overcomes this issue by moving the metal parts of a traditional sensor that interfere with incident light to the photodiode to the back of the sensor. This allows even more light to reach each pixel, improving light sensitivity and QE. This groundbreaking platform is part of a new generation of cameras that offer improved throughput, features, and performance. The TMX 5010’s flexibility ensures that it can produce images that meet the needs of scientific analysts, with the ability to select binning mode allowing for a variety of resolutions without sacrificing speed.
